Family

Family gatherings have always been a big part of my childhood. Getting all the aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents together created some of the best memories! The food was always the star, featuring repeat dishes that seemed like they were made just for these get-togethers.

This fruit salad was one of those classics. My grandmother, from a pioneer family in Eden Prairie, would whip this up, and I wouldn’t be surprised if her mom had it on the table too. Super easy to make and absolutely delicious!

What makes a family? I think it’s about the shared practices that bind poeple together across generations.

Traditions give family’s a sense of identity and belonging. It;’s not the activity itself, but the meaning behind it – whether it’s Sunday dinners, annual reunions, or planting a certain flower every spring.

Repetition is what turns an event into a tradition. The act of doing something together builds the past,, present and future.
