Rudy’s Father Fredrick Max Berger Sr. Died on 1989. Records of Fredrick were lost in the war. Hulda Schriber was a widow and stayed in Germany until her boys Fritz jr and Rudy sent her money, and saved enough for a ticket to Minnesota. She lived with both of her boys family’s a few weeks at a time, until then lived with the other. My mother Marie had commented that Grandma Hulda stayed in the upstairs of the house, and the family lived on the main floor. Hulda was old, tired, sickly and difficult. She only spoke German and some neighbors near by would visit with her.
There is more to know on when Hulda arrived to MN. The 1st known reference is in the 1930 census where it states that she came to MN in 1920. WWI was between 1914 – 1918. There wouldn’t of been any travel to America durning that time. She was a widow so searching for her would possibility be H Berger, vs using her first name and traveling alone. There are many routes, and often times travel by steamer would come up through Louisianna, vs through Canada and New York. I continue my search hoping I will get some lead to a passenger list.
